Ms. Cathy Haarstad’s current role at NDCPD is to serve as the Project Director for the Active Supports program. This program provides training and technical assistance to adult service providers on how to provide people with significant learning disabilities with opportunities to be engaged in and experience a meaningful life. The project is funded under a federal Money Follows the Person Grant which was awarded to the State of ND through a sub-contract with NDCPD.
Cathy has extensive background in family support, adult services, behavior intervention, multi-cultural connections in ND, non-profit management and supporting parents with disabilities. She previously wrote and implemented several federal projects of National Significance in Family Support and Transportation that were funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. Cathy also served as the Executive Director of the Parent Training and Information Center for ND which was funded by the US Department of Education.
Cathy holds two Bachelor of Science in Education degrees with a minor in Fine Arts from Michigan State University and a Master’s of Science Degree in Special Education from Minot State University. Cathy is also a certified graduate of the LEND program at Utah State University. Cathy self-identifies as a person with a disability and as the parent of an adult daughter with developmental disabilities.
