North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities

Make a Difference

"To place your name by gift or bequest in the keeping of an active educational institution is to...make a permanent contribution to the welfare of humanity."
--Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)

Our goal is to advance philanthropic support for the continued growth of NDCPD. Private contributions help NDCPD carry out activities that often cannot be accomplished with grant funds. Private gifts are tax deductable and can be directed toward very specific efforts.

We invite you to join us in making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and their families. In particular, we invite you to consider the following ways you can assist us:

  • Participate on our Consumer Advisory Council - The NDCPD Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) is made up of North Dakotans with disabilities and their family members. They provide us with important guidance and suggestions regarding emerging issues. Each year, we recruit several new members to fill vacancies on the CAC. If you are interested in serving on the CAC, you can download a copy of the application form by clicking here, or you may call us at (800) 233-1737 for more information.
  • Contribute to the NDCPD Endowment - The NDCPD Endowment is an important source of funds that we use to match grant opportunities to improve opportunities for people with disabilities. For more information about what the NDCPD Endowment is and how you can contribute, click here
  • Contribute to the NDCPD Access Scholarship - The Access Scholarship helps students with disabilities finance their education at Minot State University. For more information about the Access Scholarship and how your contributions can make a difference, click here
  • Joint Venture Opportunities - Each year, we pass up many interesting prospects simple because we lack time, resources, or capital. If you have an idea that addresses a need faced by people with disabilities, their families, or those who work with and for them, and you are interested in partnering with us, drop us an email by clicking here or give us a call at (800) 233-1737.

Private Giving

Cash Gift: A monthly or annual cash donation may be immediately beneficial for both you and the Center.

Corporate matching gifts: Your employer may have a matching gift program whereby your company will match whatever gift you make to the Center.

Memorials and Honorariums: These gift options honor deceased friends or family members or serve as living tributes to loved ones.

Planned Giving

Planned giving options provide opportunities for larger and lasting contributions to the NDCPD. Some of the planned options include:

Gifts by Will:
Bequests, both large and small, provide funding for programs, facilities and future development. In addition to being one of the simplest ways to distribute your estate, your will can also be a creative vehicle through which you can make a thoughtful gift to the Anne Carlsen Center for Children.

You may include NDCPD in your will by modifying your present will (by adding a codicil), or by including the Center in your revocable trust. To bequeath money or property to the NDCPD, you and your lawyer may find the following language helpful: I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to NDCPD at Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota, for its general purposes ( . . . dollars) (. . . percent) (all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate).

Gifts by Insurance: One of the simplest ways to make a significant gift to the NDCPD is to name it to receive all or a portion of the proceeds of a life insurance policy. You can ensure a gift that may ultimately be larger than its cost.

Charitable Gift Annuities: This is a way to make a gift to the NDCPD while enjoying income and tax benefits that can also help enhance your future financial well-being. When making a charitable gift of cash or other property, you or another person you designate then receive fixed payments that will continue regardless of how long you or other recipients live.

Charitable Trusts: If you are interested in making a substantial gift to NDCPD over a period of years, consider making us a beneficiary of a charitable trust whereby assets are transferred to a trust that pays income to the NDCPD for a predetermined number of years. At the end of that period, the assets are returned to you or other persons you name.

Retained Life Estate: Using a life estate arrangement you can make a real estate gift to the NDCPD now but retain the security of knowing you may live there or own the property as long as you wish. By gifting the property by deed, it does not pass through your probate estate at death, possibly saving unnecessary expenses and delays.

Securities: Gifting an investment to the NDCPD may be the optimal way to provide a significant gift while at the same time reaping tax benefits by bypassing potential capital gains taxes.

Please don't hesitate to call us for additional information about planned giving options. You can reach us by email by clicking here or call us at (800) 233-1737.
